so, apparently the world is coming to an end in 2012. what better year than this to watch the following up-coming films to be released over the next couple of months? they're all set in the past -- but oddly seem to share a strange similarity: they are all connected with something that is about to perish.

elementary sherlocking: 'the disappearance of lady frances carfax' (1911)

the first week on the other side of sunday livestreams with SHERLOCK. gone is the adventure of feeling like cracking through the iron curtain in the 60s with a toothpick and an aluminium foil hat. so instead it's back to the regular pattern of the grAnada district and the slightly older versions of sherlock and john, namely holmes and watson.

elementary sherlocking: 'the dying detective' (1913)

perfectly timed for the week after sherlock's falling out with rich brook, this round of elementary sherlocking looks into the first incident (chronologically speaking) in which holmes fakes his death and worries watson out of his skull. by the time they went on the infamous hike across the swiss alps, watson shouldn't have trusted holmes one inch when it came to his mortality. but the doctor is of a forgiving and forgetting kind.

elementary sherlocking: 'the bruce-partington plans' (1908)

sorry for yet another delay. this week's evenings have been pretty busy and there was just no time to sit down three hours in a row to type up my notes and get all the pictures in order. but here goes now holmes's investigation into victorian submarines. -- and before i get on the subject. wasn't the hounds of baskerville something epic? i still haven't forgiven mr. moffat the character assassination of irene adler, but this episode was bloody brilliant!

eugh!

one should think i have more important things to do than sit here on a sunday and write on an article for the next Liaisons. writing about personal observations is just so emotionally draining, i think i'm putting in a break by writing a page or two for my dissertation. at least that's about people whom i've never met and who have been dead for at least 70 years. although i've become quite a bit protective about two of my female authors and one diarist (the dyslexic welsh curate), writing 50 odd pages on them isn't half as difficult as is this. too close to home. and i must be mental to actually put it out there for others to read. eugh!

elementary sherlocking: 'the red circle' (1911)

apologies for the unexpected christmas hiatus, but i was out cold with christmas goose and had forgotten to take the much needed screencaps for this review. but finally, a new year brings a new round of canon reviewing and nitpicking. (not to mention the first episode of the new SHERLOCK series 2. -- review contains just a minor spoiler at the very end.)
