investigative journalism, or: killerkäfer greifen an!

presently, northern germany is being hit again by swarms of ladybirds. it's a natural phenomenon that happens every couple of decades. i can remember one summer (i guess it was 1989), when you just couldn't avoid killing at least 100 little bugs with every single step you took. they were just that many. it's quite a gruesome phenomenon, but it never lasts for more than a couple of weeks. it's just a sign of a really humid summer with lots to eat for the ladybird larvae. that's all really. unless you start reading german newspapers, that is...

according to some of them, these swarms of millions of ladybirds are one of moses' seven plagues and they liken thos little kritters to aliens from outer space. it goes something like this:
