today i received an email from the admins that they are going to shut down 1on in two weeks. so from here on out, i'll be busy saving my data instead of producing new one. thanks to everyone who has read and commented over the years. it was fun, while it lasted.

it's not yet 7.30 in the morning and i just pushed a batch of brownies in the oven. i have a baking reputation to lose if i don't make up for the lacklustre reception of the savouriy short cakes from last week. so my heavy duty brownies it is then. death. by. chocolate! do your magic!!!

it all started with 4 eggs left over from last monday when i set out to make a sheet of muffins. today, i was overcome once more by the urge to bake something and settled on my fail-save recipe for short cakes. only to be stumped again by the realization that this is one of the recipes in my cook book that doesn't call for eggs. having made sure that i hadn't copied faulty instructions from the original recipe, the cakes went in the oven a mere 15 minutes later. truly, no eggs needed -- and i'm still left wondering what to do with those 4 from earlier this week.

yesterday morning the second potential flat-mate showed up at my door step to inspect the flat and room he'd be renting. he was chatty, nice, he didn't find the idea of heating his room with a coal stove repelling and enjoyed the view of the back garden. but on top of it all -- HE PETTED THE CAT!!!! please, move in and i will bake you muffins and cook you food, young MA student from belgium! alas i will have to wait till tomorrow until he gives me notice because he's still got two other flats to inspect.

till tomorrow then i'll be sitting on hot cold coal, waiting for the heads up.

edit: two days later -- no belgian flatmate. the search continues.

after eight years, my flat-mate has moved out today.

PLEASE dump ALL your attention on me. i want to attend your conferences sooooo bad!i admit it. i am impatient to the worst degree.

this is worse than waiting for christmas eve when you get to unwrap your presents -- because at the moment i don't know whether there will be presents.

since this is supposed to be a writing day, i need to get in the mood of chucking out a couple of pages about welsh place names and the stories behind them for the next issue of the liaisons periodical. -- someone remind me: why again did i sign up for five articles? and since writing works best with getting some procrastination in the way, here's a meme.

i know times are hard for actors, but i cannot imagine that they are that hard. so i would kindly appreciate it if you stopped working as a waiter in a restaurant -- dressed up as severus snape. stop sneaking out film props to use them as cuttlery, like you did with the dark lord's wand. i prefer my shashlik on a spit -- not on his wand. and stop blaming the decorators. they have nothing to do with it.

one should think i have more important things to do than sit here on a sunday and write on an article for the next Liaisons. writing about personal observations is just so emotionally draining, i think i'm putting in a break by writing a page or two for my dissertation. at least that's about people whom i've never met and who have been dead for at least 70 years. although i've become quite a bit protective about two of my female authors and one diarist (the dyslexic welsh curate), writing 50 odd pages on them isn't half as difficult as is this. too close to home. and i must be mental to actually put it out there for others to read. eugh!
