a good book, coffee and a nice looking man who can read two sentences aloud without tripping over his own tongue. YEAH! we like that!

three dreamboats reading tales from the HMS Unsinkable Jane A. (note: mr. willoughby is emma thompson's [aka elinor dashwood] second husband for whom she left mr hamlet. to say it in the immortal words of the great alanis, 'isn't it ironic?')

and call me classist, but these three are the perfect illustration, why i want a cultivated brit for a man. ::flail::

preparing for my seminars tomorrow, quite by accident i stumbled across the charming flickr portfolio of a british cartoonist who goes by the name of tom gauld. his work has already been picked up by the guardian and recently he has also illustrated a book sleeve for a publication about british history. especially the comic strips concerned with literature, british history and critical theory tickled my funny bone.

behind the cut, find a few examples that i liked best of his portfolio. but make sure to check out the rest of his work either here on tom's website or on his flickr account.

may i present to you a very funny blog supporting the sisterhood with entertaining entries. blogging against sexism, homophobia and the fashion industry, the authors are doing plenty good. my dear ladies, i give you the heartless dolls:

'The Heartless Dolls are Andrea, Kathleen, Kiala, Merritt, Nicki and a hifalutin array of notable guest contributors from around the web. We dig pop culture and ladythings.'

my feminist heart is very happy today to see such a blog in existence. to say it in the words of the heartless dolls: womanity, it's good for you.

a new spin for the ever so popular game bullshit! bingo. liz henry has designed her own sets. you'll find 'anti-feminism', 'racist', 'creationist', 'white stupid guy' and all sorts of interesting bingo cards in her folder.

BINGO!

don't forget to print off the appropriate card before you head out to the next gathering of the ever so lovely extended family, or the pub down the corner or the next best NPD-rally.

after a very long absence of this category, i thought it was high time to reactivate it. and twitter made me do it. though i still don't see the appeal of hundrets of millions of people twittering that they just had a bowl of cereal for breakfast, only to twitter a mere five minutes later that they had just had a dump, there are at least some twitterers that are worth mentioning.

take the apollo 11 mission for example. a few days ago their account was activated and they plan on releasing single tweets in order to recreate the original mission of 40 years ago. in a way, those who were born too late now have the chance to experience apollo 'as it really happened'.

with my affection for all things charles chaplin still thoroughly in place, i stumbled over this short, very sweet video documenting alistair cooke's trip to the US in the 1930s. it looks like this snippet is taken from a bbc documentary from yesterday evening. too bad that i neither have access to british television nor that i knew before to have asked stiwart, if he could have taped it for me. anywho. long story short, the video can be watched here.

edit: alley drew another picture of charles. oh, to corrupt the world around me!!!

NO. I want to know why Warner Bros. is being RIDIKULUS!
I don't blame MN of course.
(1)They didn't give us the trailer yet. It's way overdue.
(2)And they gave us all these release dates without the freakin US release date!!
(3)And I wonder why the heck Belgium, Egypt gets it first. I've never heard of that place. How many Potter fans even live there?
(A)Sorry for my rage. =p

a nifty new application, wordle, allows you to create word clouds for your blog. you can choose from a font, layout and colouring set. whichever you like. find my own wordcloud behind the cut.

edit: wordle is an instrument from hell! it's quite adictive and made me create two more word clouds.
