if you can't depend on anything, you can still depend on two things: godwin's law and the ignorance of people.

stephen fry was right, dammit!

a few years back on QI, stephen fry quipped, 'sometimes there's just not enough vomit in the world.'

i have just spent some four hours on the phone with friends and we were mutually at our whits' end and we three kept repeating the same phrases over and over again. 'i am lost for words! i can't form a coherent thought!'

a quick search query on deviantART with the words 'cute nazi' returned a staggering number of 1,365 hits. that is discounting an unchecked number of nazis and fascists on there promoting their 'art' and helping deviantART fill their own pockets by passively lending a platform to these people. they seem to fall into two categories: dumb girls between the age of 14 and 18 who truly think that mengele was as cute as a button and göbbels just your average kind of misunderstood adorable sweetums of a guy. and then there are the hardcore, die-hard, true neo-nazis who wank to american history x and send their love to deary adolf. yeah, the last time i visited a concentration camp i smiled with glee. especially when i remembered that spread in country&style and suddenly realised that good german oak makes for a hell of a good barrack for outings over the weekend.

most of all i am disappointed and disgusted by the owners of deviantART, though, for supporting antisemitism on the web by lending these people webspace for free!!! i had once thought of opening an account there. not so much now. i won't stoop so low and associate with such people who piss on the millions of graves filled on account of nazis cheerully wanking over human suffering in the most painful, most dreadful way unimaginable.

deviantART, you truly have revealed yourselves as the sad bastards of this passing year!

free speech -- it's good to have it!

what it boils down to is power. censorship and denial of free speech is exercising that power over others. it is in no way any different from good old orwell's newspeak. the moment your and my speech is restricted by whomever thinks so fit, that moment our freedom is diminished.

use your power and speak!

hello, blog.

we are already a few days into november, there's hardly any leaves left on the trees and the weather is generally murky. i just remembered that i have a blog which is a place where i can say what i think without caring so much about what others think. for instance, i was just rudely attacked for not having donated my face as a punching-bag to your random street-nazi-brawl in order to fight for democracy. to me, two wrongs just don't ever make a right. i have also never lain in a ditch, drunken off my face, not knowing where i was and how i got there. and if so, i would be ashamed of such a circumstance and not go trumping about it in public -- and then, to cap it all, call it 'life experience'. i have also gotten along with my mother splendidly. and when i had problems, those were not her fault by lay simply with my own idiocy. i did not have to get acquainted with the 'hard ways of the world', simply because i did not want to get to know them in the first place. instead, i pulled myself together, learned a profession, finished my studies, went abroad and am now working for my career again. what's wrong with that, i ask?!?

but obviously some people think, i wasted my life, because i refuse to break the law in order to fight for my fatherland, much unlike that other person who's been there and done it all. so here's to you!

i. don't. believe. in. nations! all they ever did was create tears and bloodshed.

'The idea of the nation became as bad social science, a civics created by a governess and a panopticon. It was too stiffly starched, too official, too definitional. It was a grammar that didn't allow for the free play of language. It was syntactically tolerable but semantically unliveable. It corseted the idea of the person, and seemed to reduce the life worlds in which we lived.' (Shiv Visvanathan: ‘Interrogating the Nation’ in Economic and Political Weekly, Vol. 38, No. 23 (Jun. 7-13, 2003), pp. 2295-2302)

a new spin for the ever so popular game bullshit! bingo. liz henry has designed her own sets. you'll find 'anti-feminism', 'racist', 'creationist', 'white stupid guy' and all sorts of interesting bingo cards in her folder.

BINGO!

don't forget to print off the appropriate card before you head out to the next gathering of the ever so lovely extended family, or the pub down the corner or the next best NPD-rally.

that thing with polanski

Posted by rita in culture is ordinary

so polanski got arrested 31 years after he commited the crime. drugging a 13-year old girl till she was completely off her rocker and then had sex with her -- which under the state law of california is automatically equaled to rape. the age-bit. not the drugging! personally, i wouldn't make that distinction. one is as bad as the other.

so that was in 1978. and he was arrested in switzerland of all places. polanski is now in his 70ies. his victim is in her 40s. in the past 31 years he has repeatedly said that he was sorry for what he has done. in the meantime the victim has forgiven him. only that rape is not a time-barred crime under california law.

there are some things i just don't understand

antisemitism, for example. i had always thought that we are finally beyond that. but then the pope goes about condemning himself and his church by walking into this open saw mill of public relations. benedict and his cardinals are supposed to be wise men who are fighting for a better world. but all of a sudden, they seem to have lost touch with reality even more than they had already in the past decades. how on earth could they claim to reach out to judaism but at the same time rehabilitate a cardinal who has denied the shoa more than once?!? the term 'hypocracy' springs to mind. or are they simply delusional?!?

einstein was right when he said, 'there are two things in existance that are infinite. the universe and man's stupidity. but i am not sure about the universe.'
